“In the 2008 debates, President Obama said he would ‘go line
by line to make sure that we are not spending money unwisely.’ He should be
held to that promise.” WSJ June 1, 2011.
Here are some lines from actual food stamps receipts,
March 5th, 2011.

My wife’s first job was as a clerk at a grocery store and she has told me several times how shocked she was at the things that people were buying with food stamps. People would come in and get top grade steaks and junk food that her middle class family did not have in their home.
The WIC program is run much better. My wife and I qualified for WIC while in graduate school and each month the program provided 2 gallons of milk, 1 pound of cheese, 1 gallon of juice, and eggs for our two young children to make sure that they were eating nutritious meals. Every 6 months we had an interview and a checkup for the kids to make sure that they were healthy.
If we are going to go to the effort to help people, I much prefer the idea of helping them afford food items that are beneficial as opposed to writing a blank check to waste our tax dollars.
The WIC model is much more frugal and healthy. Restrict choices. Taxpayers could save perhaps $40 billion per year.
[...] What Arnold doesn’t know is that there are already a candidates clamoring for policies that would set up a massive food police at an enormous expense. However, they are the members of his own party. Here is a list of legislators (all Republicans) that signed an op-ed in favor of the idiotic boondoggle. The “evidence” for the claims made in the op-ed comes only from Tom Burnett’s own blog. [...]
