Tea Party Protests and Tiananmen

How similar are today’s Tea Party Protests to other well-known uprisings?

In 1989, in Tiananmen Square, Beijing, students and others protested government’s lack of democracy. They wanted openness. They wanted circumspect government. They wanted individual rights. They protested big government. Tea Parties do the same.

Last month, demonstrations in Iran protested central government excess and election rigging. Protesters called for personal freedoms and representative democracy. They protest arbitrary, insensitive central government. Tea Parties do the same.

In 1776, colonists protested an uncongenial government that curtailed their rights. They wanted self-determination based on individual liberty. They wanted to restrain government. Their protest was against Big, Distant Government. Tea Parties do the same.
